Cover letter for the application of Ethnic Minority Program Officer, iSEE

I am Đăng Thành, an independent cultural researcher, a Master’s student in philosophy at Hanoi National University of Education, whose website is dangthanhsite.wordpress.com. My research focuses on 1) the French traditional anthropological – sociological theory (Durkheim – Mauss – Levi-Strauss – Dumont), which is the basis for acquiring contemporary cultural theories, 2) then applies them in the context of Vietnamese society. This approach has been recognized by some researchers.

Follow this direction, I had the opportunity to be invited by President Lương Thế Huy to have a presentation at iSEE, August 2, 2021. My aim is to simultaneously consider Western theories and the perspective of native researchers on their own culture, thereby defining a framework for thinking and practicing today. This is the premise to be able to organize programs and community activities.

My work at the same time can suggest others to acquire both contemporary cultural theories and understanding of native society throught the understanding of documented systems. For the study of ethnic minorities, one of the leading Vietnamese scholars that I am researching, and who may help you, is Từ Chi (1925 – 1995).

​My appoarch could meet the needs of iSEE, which is recruiting Ethnic Minority Program Officer. So I hope that we can have a chance to work together.
